What is beauty?
The age-old question that brings different images to mind. Many of these images are due to years of conditioning – either from people who influence or messages from the media. These days, such messages come from in more insidious ways than before, especially from the social media.
So, what does beauty mean to you?
The first thing that comes to mind would likely be related to outward appearances and physical features. And how can we fault that? So disadvantaged are those who are not endowed with aesthetically pleasing face or features.
But let’s move away from these definitions that are often backed by lies and conditioning. Let’s look at what matters, that is what is most attractive.
These days, beauty isn’t just about having perfect features. It’s about having confidence in who we are. It’s about being self-assured and accepting ourselves for who we are. It’s totally about feeling good from the inside out and not being worried about being accepted by society.
And with this confidence in ourselves, we then begin to look at what we can do to be and even better version of ourselves. It’s not about beating ourselves up. It’s about accepting, understanding and expressing who we are, in spite of our flaws and imperfections. That’s attractive.
About good skin
On to more about good skin. What do we need? First and foremost, tone and volume are the foundation of good-looking skin. People with good skin tend to have plump and bouncy skin. This is the effect of having sufficient elastin and collagen.
Next, it’s clarity of the skin, where there is a consistent colour. That also means, there’s no discolouration or presence of dark spots or pigmentation. Then there is also texture, how firm, hydrated or smooth is the skin? With age, all of these become a challenge, even for those who take care of their skin.
Daily regimen
I have practised good daily habits when it comes to my skin. Starting with good cleansing and toning before moisturising. And from time to time, I add special treatment. I had adopted this practice from my mid-20s. Now that I’m in my 50s, the regimen hasn’t changed. I’ve turned to a system that is affordable, convenient and effective.
Here are my some of my favourite and frequently used products for each category:
Cleansing
I love this device! When used for two minutes twice daily, the Lumispa tightens pores, minimises appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and increases skin’s firmness. The dual-action system delivers dramatic skin renewal by removing dead cells and deep cleansing, all in one device.
